Warehouse Training
Project Trailer
The Problem
A specific warehouse unit requested effective digital training for the warehouse workers. The warehouse compliance trainings are endless, starting from hazardous products to warehouse layouts. The challenge was the working time of the workers: they were allowed a maximum of 30 minutes off from work. They had to complete specific learning units only on tablet devices within that 30 minutes.
My Role
The client needed a very straightforward yet engaging learning experience which could be done by simple screen touch, click-based journeys, as there was no time for deeper learning by mouse clicks or keyboard texting. Having this strict framework, I was assigned to create modules for those 30 minutes, with maximum potential for learning transformation and situational skill development. The client was clear about preferring real-time simulations, for which intense media usage and an immersive experience were already demanded.
The client is a leading European drugstore retailer offering a wide range of beauty, health, personal care, and household products through its extensive network of stores.
Reporting and measurement were critical to these learning modules. Team leaders had to monitor and track the workers’ learning performance constantly. I focused entirely on mimicking the real warehouse environment to achieve real-life simulations, while also keeping my workflow efficient and avoiding overly complex technical solutions.
I created specific outcomes that were easy enough to solve, like the correct shelf arrangements and practicing the FIFO method, for instance, but also easy enough to understand and learn the method within 30 minutes. The modules had to follow a clear learning path, so that once a module was accomplished successfully, they could move on to the next stage of the learning.
An important aspect was that the learner should have a positive experience rather than frustration, since the time pressure was already a big challenge. I built a rewarding system with engaging visuals to maximize the feeling of accomplishment, not just a checkmark on screen. Users were able to complete these courses easily on the tablet devices.
